Fish Eagles Masters Swimming Club

Masters swimming started in South Africa in 1985.  In 1994 the late Malcolm Ausling put an article in the George Herald inviting masters swimmers to take part in a gala at the Outeniqua High School pool.  Half a dozen swimmers took part and this was the beginning of masters swimming in the Southern Cape.

Since 1995 swimmers from the Southern Cape have taken part in the annual SA Masters Championships held in March.  Initially swimmers swam for their province (WP in our case) and from 1997 swimmers competed as clubs.  From 1997 – 1999 swimmers from the Southern Cape swam for the George Swimming Club and in 2000 the club name was changed to Fish Eagles Masters.  Members are from all over the Southern Cape and not just George.

The Fish Eagles Masters hosted the 2002 and 2011 S A Masters National Championships.  Both were held at the N A Smit pool in Oudtshoorn.
